A poem for Roy
I have tried to write a poem,
For a well established poet.
Hope this prose ain’t below him,
I ain’t no poet and I know it.
There’s no denying you’re a bloke,
With a low tolerance for soppy folk!
Sweets, chocolate, biscuits and cake,
All things bought or Karen would bake.
We filled our bellies to the top,
The gluttony we hoped would never stop.
But the time has come for it to end,
(The soppy part)
To drive you round the bend!
Re-Entry has been your home from home,
Now it’s time for you to roam.
Around the country, around the globe,
Wearing your words like your favourite bathrobe.
You’re leaving lovely friends behind,
Don’t you worry about our state of mind!
No more will Donna catch you with your hand in the sweetie jar,
Or Mandy hear your shout ‘yes please’ to toast from afar.
Jo and Trish, am sure they’d say,
We wish you luck on your way.
Our Artist in Residence, the lovely Dee,
Think she wishes it was she.
The bride to be, our Amanda,
Hopes you cause chaos through wordy propaganda.
Our two fab volunteers, Nathaniel and Sarah,
Wish you Bon Voyage upon the Riviera.
The newbie of the family our Mark Grant,
Bids you farewell by Gregorian chant.
The most important name to mention is Kaz,
Who will miss all of your razzmatazz.
I guess the last has to be me,
I wrote this poem royalty free!
Dear Roy, You are a giant of a man,
To us, you have given all that you can.
We wish you all the very best,
Stand tall, be proud and God bless.
