Who am I?
2 days of Ofsted has left me with a Tiger in my tank.
So, I wrote this poem and its rather frank
Who are you? (Ofsted)
2 days to destroy and desecrate,
In your hands, you hold our fate.
We await your arrival, another charade,
With your eyes blinkered like horses, on parade.
One head teacher already dead,
I wonder how you sleep in your bed?
Like in medieval times you turn the screw,
This is not the time or place for the likes of you.
You look at our student outcome,
And tarnish them with the same brush,
Never consider their backgrounds,
And blame it on us.
We will never meet your grade of outstanding,
We are far too unique for your type of branding.
We would have loved to be good,
But with our pupils, you completely misunderstood.
You placed us in requires improvement,
We are sure, purely for your own amusement.
So, let us break it down for you,
Through our eyes we will do a walk through.
Who are they? (Pupils)
They are kings and queens from crumbling castles,
Each with their own daily battles.
Their crowns have slipped,
Their wings have been clipped.
Their robes are in tatters,
Their social status is all that matters.
Homes with no heating, they refuse crumble,
No one can learn with bellies that grumble.
Dodging the switch blade knife attacks,
Coming in from the streets with targets on their backs
They walk the school drive with a swagger, puffing on their vapes.
Hiding a few more bruises, from too many scrapes.
As the gates close behind them, they know they are safe.
Who are we? (Staff)
Everyday we welcome the broken,
We play many parts, mostly unspoken.
We are the gate keepers, we greet them each day
We are Court Jesters that bring the smiles
We are soldiers that go that extra mile
We are cooks that keep them fed
We are the Dressers that mend and wash their clothes
We are the knights in shiny armour who teach them to be brave and bold
We are the ladies in waiting, to be a listening ear
We are the guards that vow to protect them, so they have nothing to fear
We are the warriors of good against the traumas that they hide
We all work together standing tall, side by side .
A final note
And now its over and we learn to breathe again
Take the good, do not linger on the pain
So, OFSTED as you leave today
there has to be a better way
Hope the gates don’t catch you on your way out
Walk as fast as you can before they give you a clout
To quote a line from a song, so not to cause any strife
“I hope you had the time of your life”.
But before we expect your next admittance
Just remember the title of this song is “good riddance”.
